For LANDLORD’s seventh collection, Creative Director Ryohei Kawanishi went back to school.

He was initially exclusively focused on the Ivy League, but then one morning while walking his daughter to school, he realized it would be more interesting to look at student style from kindergarten to graduate school.

The Autumn/Winter 2019 Collection mixes adult academia with childlike creativity, using playful colors and shapes inspired by building blocks and playground toys. A formal meets informal style becomes this season’s uniform: coach jackets are made from striped school uniform fabric, sweatpants are made from wool suiting and blazer jackets mix panels of herringbone check with bright corduroy. The focal points of Autumn/Winter 2019 are the leather coats, exhibiting superior tanning craftsmanship in lively neon colors.

This season LANDLORD begins collaborating with Mike the Ruler as stylist and casting director. Mike has been an influential figure in New York fashion since he was 13, and brings a new perspective to the brand.

The jewelry, made by Kota Okuda, reimagines neckties as chain necklaces, and links blocks, keychains, and money into bracelets and belts. Money clips are jewels. Kota debuted his first collection of money-inspired womenswear in the Parsons MFA graduate show in September 2018.

Collaborations for the Autumn/Winter 2019 collection include a continuation of LANDLORD’s partnerships with Alpha IndustriesKosuke Tsumura and Novesta. New collaborators and sponsors include Nakaden KeoriEdovanceKuberaMiyuki Keori and Bonnie Clyde Eyewear.

Autumn/Winter 2019 marks LANDLORD’s seventh season, and sixth consecutive season showing at New York Fashion Week: Men’s. Retailers include Barney’s New York, Opening Ceremony, Dover Street Market, SSENSE and several stockists in Japan. Billboard Magazine marked LANDLORD as “Hip Hop’s favorite label” it has been worn by many celebrities, including Big Sean, Joey Bada$$, Migos, A$AP Rocky, Rae Sremmurd, The Weeknd, Tyga, Wiz Khalifa and more.

As a whole, this collection represents Kawanishi’s NEW USA.
