Felder Gallery Kicks Off 1st Annual Contemporary Western Group Show On December 1 Featuring Works By Renowned Artists, Skylar Fein, S.C. Mummert and Billy Schenck

Felder Gallery announced it will present a group exhibition encompassing the 1950’s attitude of the American West, revealed through provocative, iconic and colorful Pop-Art imagery from renowned artists Syklar Fein, S.C. Mummert and Billy Schenck. The Contemporary Western Group Show will run from December 1, 2018 – January 5, 2019 with an opening reception, featuring a personal appearance by Mummert, on Saturday, December 1 from 5-7pm.

“All three artists come from diverse backgrounds and use very different techniques,” said Robby Felder, owner of Felder Gallery. “Not your typical Western art show, these artists’ works depict the American West through a contemporary sense and the culture and significance of 1950’s America shines through.”

The artists were selected by Felder Gallery based on their recent accomplishments in Western or contemporary art. Although using different styles and techniques, each artists’ distinctive works draw attention to color, powerful composition and Western symbolism.

Billy Schenck, an original founder of the Western Pop Art Movement, currently with works in more than 54 museum collections, uses Pop-Art and Photo-Realism techniques throughout his works bringing to life iconic images of the West. San Diego-based artist S.C. Mummert, best known for his romanticized paintings of the American West from the 1930’s -1960’s, paints solely in oils and his works are of a representational style with a blend of narrative detail and strong tonal design. Sklyar Fein, originally from New Orleans, is recognized for his work’s pop sensibility as well as its hard-nosed politics. Fein currently with works in several prominent collections including The Whitney Museum of American Art and The Brooklyn Museum, creates two- and three-dimensional works that incorporate bold imagery and found materials.

“Through this annual exhibition, Felder Gallery aims to bring together various sorts of collectors who take interest in both contemporary and Western art,” said Felder. “The exhibition’s theme portrays the ethos of the 1950s as well as the iconic imagery, romanticized attitude and grit of the American West.”

The opening reception will take place on Saturday, December 1 from 5-7pm at Felder Gallery, 5934 Broadway St, Suite 1. Guests will enjoy hors d'oeuvres and wine while experiencing the show as well as the chance to meet with Robby Felder and featured artist, S. C. Mummert. To learn more about the complete schedule of exhibitions at Felder Gallery visit FelderGallery.com or call (361) 944-0167.
